Artist¡¯s Statement by Yuhee Choi
I think that only an artist plays a role of guiding people from realistic space to a key point moving toward an ideal by painting on a white canvas. I also communicate with appreciators and pursue secession from reality through painting activities. I cover a canvas with things good to see to forget difficulties and vain things in the real world. I lead psychological shakeup of appreciators through space in a picture.
Appreciators go into this space by escaping from all smothered and painful things in earthly reality and are led into a temporary state of dementia by an unknown state of dimness in a dizzy image. Repeatedly overlapped images make them move toward their unconscious world by anesthetizing their conscious thought.
I also felt difficult when I attempted to approach the frame of art through my work. In the conditions that the essential meaning of arts is lost and degenerated with a question about vague trueness of contemporary fine arts, I attempted to be infatuated with fundamental pleasure of arts.
Repetitive actions in works make me happy by disclosing my unconscious desire and make me enjoy my sense of freedom escaping from reality. In addition, they make appreciators experience a visual confusion which a boundary between subject and object gets vague as well as a slide of their eyes.
The auto-writing painting makes close lines and colors and consequently develops a story by releasing naturally from the interface between consciousness and unconsciousness.
Its splendid primary colors lead purity of the picture and make appreciators have an erotic fantasy. Its shapes and patterns press for a flow of eyes by expressing impromptu, impulsive and funny characteristics in daily life and forming a link with them.

ÇÏÁö¸¸ À̰ÍÀÌ ¡®Bone¡¯ À̶ó°í »ý°¢ÇÑ´Ù. º» ÀÛ¾÷Àº º»´Ù´Â °Í, »ý°¢ÇÑ´Ù´Â °Í¿¡ ´ëÇÑ °í¹Î, »ç°í, µµÀüÀÌ´Ù. As gazing at the old photos, I look back on my past experiences. Unexpectedly, some unfamiliar things in the photos capture me and a chain of questions on them arouse in my mind. However, though I reflect my past as looking back those days, my memory allows me to hold onto a piece of the entire past and remembering each moment only. Haven't I been able to see the past with my inability to remember?
There exists a limitation in our perception. We see a lot of things everyday. However, we cannot perceive comprehensively and rather, sense only in part. Though a figure exists definitely, we can not see its essence as if being trapped in a certain trick. Something is that we are not able to see even though it exists just in front of us.
Do we have to admit that there are something that 'we can see' and something that 'we cannot see' and a line separating them? Within such preconditions, we leave images paranoically which we have selected following the flow of our consciousness. The excerpted pieces as stains of perception flowing through different places are part of a thing but contain trifle characteristics. Though they are common, nuanced and instant, they have an extended potential.
Such actions revealing paranoiac images have their particular flows in them. These flows after repeating themselves spontaneously in images depart from their original images and get twisted and missing, resulting in a unfamiliar combination of drifting images. I collect fragments of images which are excerpted by the traces of perception. I am not sure whether these fragments are main figures of the images or extras. But I think that they are ¡®bones.¡¯ This work is an agony, examination, and challenge on seeing and contemplating. It is an exploration on in what styles and frames such bones form groundless images.
